The Baird Government has secretly dumped two of its most senior transport officials from the Westconnex road project with no explantion.

Tim Reardon, Secretary of Transport for NSW, and Peter Duncan, Chief Executive of the Roads and Maritime Services, have both left the Board responsible for the Westconnex.

Formed in October 2013, the WestConnex Delivery Authority was charged with overseeing the construction, financing and management of what was originally forecast to be a $10 billion project.

Since then, costs have blown out to more than $15 billion, a business case and an environmental impact statement have yet to be released, and elements of the project has been the subject of a highly critical report by the Auditor-General.

Meanwhile, a rival entity, the Sydney Motorway Corporation, has also taken over the job of delivering the project from Westconnex.

Quotes attributable to Shadow Minister for Roads Jodi McKay

“The Baird Government has failed to announce that it has purged two senior executives from the largest road building project in NSW – let alone explain why.”

“This should yet again ring alarm bells about the transparency and accountability of the Westconnex project.”
