Secret Berejiklian Government documents reveal, not only the true cost of the Newcastle Light Rail, but that the project has also blown out by millions.

The leaked cabinet documents reveal that the estimated total cost of the Newcastle Light Rail is $290.2 million.

And that the project’s budget has been revised upwards by an extra $35 million.

It’s the first time the true cost of the project has been revealed, within the $500 million Revitalising Newcastle program.

Document extract:

The Transport for NSW document contradicts a claim made by Premier Gladys Berejiklian on Tuesday that the light rail would be delivered within budget.

The revelations also follow the Berejiklian Government’s refusal to release the cost of the Newcastle Light Rail under a Freedom of Information request by Member for Newcastle Tim Crakanthorp.
