I have spoken this morning with the Mayor of the City of Lismore Isaac Smith and the Federal MP for Richmond Justine Elliot on the dangerous threat from the serious flooding, after Lismore’s levee broke – and flood water spilled right into the CBD.

This is the most serious flood to hit Lismore, Murwillumbah, Tweed Heads and the North Coast in several decades.

Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone in the community battling to contain an unprecedented situation.

I want to thank all those members of the SES and other emergency volunteers who continue to conduct evacuations.

I trust that all relevant NSW and Federal Government departments and agencies will deliver the necessary assistance to the community over the coming days.

I will continue to talk to Mayor Smith and Mrs. Elliot about the needs of the families and businesses of the North Coast as this emergency develops.
