O’Farrell's secret plans revealed: Dump Hunters Hill radioactive waste in Kemps Creek: Premier breaks key election promise to western Sydney

Barry O’Farrell is set to dump radioactive waste from Sydney’s north shore in Kemps Creek - reversing the decision by the former Labor Government to keep the waste out of western Sydney.

“Barry O’Farrell is planning to remove more than 5,000 tonnes of radioactive waste from Hunters Hill and dump it in the heart of western Sydney,” Opposition Leader John Robertson said.

“Barry O’Farrell is reversing the former Labor Government’s decision to stop the radioactive waste from being dumped near homes at the Kemps Creek waste facility in western Sydney.

“Prior to the election, Barry O’Farrell campaigned against the radioactive waste being dumped at Kemps Creek - now one of his senior Ministers has revealed it was the Premier’s plan all along.

“Barry O’Farrell and his new Liberal Members for Mulgoa, Tanya Davies and Smithfield, Andrew Rohan lied to local residents when they said the radioactive waste would not be dumped in their backyards.

“For a Premier who is also supposed to be the Minister for Western Sydney, Barry O’Farrell certainly doesn’t act like it.” Shadow Environment Minister Luke Foley said the Government had to look for alternative locations to dispose the radioactive waste.

“The O’Farrell Government is sending radioactive waste to western Sydney to help out their north shore mates,” Mr Foley said.

“If radioactive waste isn’t good enough for Hunters Hill, why is it good enough for Kemps Creek families?

“The O’Farrell Government should be investigating other alternative locations for this radioactive waste, including interstate and overseas sites.”
