Liberals must guarantee Hartcher won’t have their ear

The NSW Opposition is calling for a guarantee that no government representative will meet with former Minister Chris Hartcher – following revelations that the former Terrigal MP is now working as a lobbyist for a Central Coast property developer.

“The Government must rule out any meetings with Mr Hartcher until he is cleared by the ICAC,” said Shadow Attorney General Paul Lynch.

"In light of evidence at the ICAC, it would be disturbing for Mr Hartcher to profit from his contacts with Government.

“If Mr Hartcher is cleared of corrupt conduct then he should be free to do as he wishes, as approved by the Parliamentary ethics adviser– but at least let the ICAC deliver its findings.”

Shadow Minister for the Central Coast David Harris said: “The people of the Central Coast understandably lost faith in government as a result of the illegal donations scandal.

“News that the alleged ringleader is now being paid to lobby local and state governments on behalf of a property developer is disturbing.

“This man is currently under investigation by the ICAC for alleged involvement in an illegal political donations scheme.

“How is it possible that a person under investigation of corrupt conduct can turn around and lobby the government?

“Mike Baird must act by guaranteeing Mr Hartcher will not have access to his government before ICAC hands down its findings."
