LABOR REVEALS PLANS FOR GOSFORD AND CENTRAL COAST

-->

NSW Labor Leader Luke Foley has announced a multi-million dollar development plan for the Central Coast.

It includes a $100 million fund to create jobs, a Service NSW Centre for Woy Woy, a 7-day a week Nurse Walk-in Centre in Gosford – and a huge boost in funding for both TAFE and school maintenance.

Mr Foley also pledged to build the Woy Woy underpass, which the Liberal State Government abandoned – after inept management by the then Transport Minister and now Premier Gladys Berejiklian forced costs to spiral out of control.

Mr Foley made the announcement at the Gosford campaign launch with Liesl Tesch, Labor’s candidate for the Gosford by-election on Saturday 8th April.

The Service NSW Centre honours a campaign by outgoing Member for Gosford Kathy Smith, who is ill with cancer. She had collected 15,000 signatures from residents who didn’t want to travel far to speak to a Government agency, pay a bill or make an inquiry about Government services.

The Nurse Walk-In Centre is a State-first – to be open seven days a week, staffed by experienced nurses for one-off medical advice and treatment.

Labor is also opposing the privatisation of Wyong Hospital on the Central Coast; a decision by the Liberals which will place extra pressure on Gosford Hospital.

Mr Foley pledged to start restoring TAFE to its former status – as the key educational centre for young people to learn skills of benefit to them and the businesses where they are employed. The Liberals have aggressively assaulted and dismantled TAFE in the region. Sacking 185 teachers across the Hunter Institute – at a time when Central Coast youth unemployment is at 18.3 per cent.

1 in 5 young people does not have a job. A scandalous example, Mr Foley said, of the clear neglect the Liberal State Government arrogantly displayed in Gosford.

Quotes attributable to Opposition Leader Luke Foley

“Our Central Coast Jobs Action Plan will create jobs, and bring prosperity.

“We will create a Nurse Walk-In Centre in Gosford. A State first – because good medical treatment should not depend on the size of your wallet.

“This State Government botched the Woy Woy underpass, from day one. That has become their trademark. We will build it.

“A Services NSW Centre for Woy Woy is essential. It’s about time this Government made it easy for the elderly and busy families to access Government services.”

Quotes attributable to Labor Candidate for Gosford Liesl Tesch

“The Berejiklian Government is defined by what it does not do for Gosford. It finds it easy to neglect this region, and try and make us poor cousins. We’ll change that, very fast.

“We have developed a comprehensive, costed, achievable, plan for the Gosford region. There’ll be continuing community input – and we’ll respond to what people tell us, about what they want and need.”
