FOLEY WELCOMES FEDERAL LABOR CASH BOOST FOR RAIL LINK TO WESTERN SYDNEY AIRPORT

-->

NSW Labor Leader Luke Foley has welcomed Federal Opposition Leader Bill Shorten’s announcement today that a government he leads will provide $3 billion to deliver a rail link to Western Sydney airport.

A rail link that connects Western Sydney airport to the rest of the train network is a key transport priority for NSW Labor. Mr Foley led the way in calling for a rail link to the airport from the day that it opens.

Unlike Kingsford Smith airport which got its rail 80 years later, Western Sydney Airport needs a rail link to be up and running to deliver the economic benefits to the region from day one.

Labor has been committed to this project since before the last election, when it committed $400 million to get the project underway.

Today’s announcement builds on that commitment because Labor understands just how vital it is for western Sydney’s future.

Quotes attributable to NSW Labor Leader Luke Foley

“Labor is for western Sydney and that’s why I welcome Bill’s announcement today that a Shorten Federal Labor Government will fund equally the first stage of the North South Rail Link from St Marys to western Sydney Airport and Badgerys Creek.

“Labor will connect rail to Western Sydney Airport in time for the airport’s opening.

“Western Sydney will have a clear choice - our superior projects versus their wrong priorities. Labor is putting the people of western Sydney first when it comes to essential public transport infrastructure.”
