FOLEY VISITS FUTURE SITE OF GOOGONG SCHOOL TO BE BUILT BY NSW LABOR

NSW Labor Leader Luke Foley today visited the site of the future Googong primary school to be built by NSW Labor.

Mr Foley was joined by Shadow Education Minister Jihad Dib, Country Labor candidate for Monaro Bryce Wilson and Federal Labor MP for Eden Monaro Mike Kelly.

The Liberal-National Government has ignored the needs of this growing community, despite the population being set to grow ten-fold to 20,000 residents over the next 15 years. The pleas have fallen on the deaf ears of local member, Nationals Leader and Deputy Premier John Barilaro.

The Liberal-National Government has ignored the needs of this growing community, despite the population being set to grow ten-fold to 20,000 residents over the next 15 years. The pleas have fallen on the deaf ears of local member, Nationals Leader and Deputy Premier John Barilaro.

In further embarrassment for Mr Barilaro, Googong is not included on a list of future projects for the NSW Government despite his assertion it would be a ‘budget announcement not an election commitment’.

Last year, NSW Labor supported the sale of the Snowy Hydro scheme if every dollar from the billions raised was spent in regional NSW, especially on much needed schools in the Queanbeyan region.

Earlier this year, Mr Foley brought his Shadow Cabinet to Queanbeyan to take the pulse of regional NSW, as part of the Schools and Hospitals Before Stadiums tour. It was an opportunity for locals to speak to the NSW Opposition directly and raise any issues or concerns.

The lack of urgency by the Liberal-National Government to deliver classrooms for a fast growing township like Googong is just further proof of its wrong priorities in splurging $2.2 billion on the knockdown and rebuild of Sydney stadiums and substantial cost blow-outs of the Sydney Westconnex motorway and Premier’s Sydney CBD light rail vanity project.

Quotes attributable to NSW Opposition Leader Luke Foley

““Labor has always said we will put schools and hospitals before stadiums- I stand by my promise that we will build Googong its much needed primary school.

“It just shows how out of touch this government is, that despite a projected ten-fold population growth it doesn’t think a school in Googong is an urgent priority.

“We’ve been here listening to community, listening to what they want and we will deliver them a primary school.”

Quotes attributable to Federal Member for Eden Monaro Mike Kelly

“With a young population that is constantly growing, Googong is in desperate need of a public school to support the community’s educational needs, now and in the future. It is important that all levels of government work together to ensure that vital pieces of infrastructure are prioritized in our new and expanding suburbs.

“I am pleased to join with NSW Opposition Leader, Luke Foley, NSW Shadow Education Minister Jihad Dib and NSW candidate for Monaro Bryce Wilson to announce that under a NSW Labor Government, Googong will have a school.”

Quotes attributable to Shadow Education Minister Jihad Dib

“We should not have a situation where the future students of Googong end up ferried to schools out of this suburb or worse, end up crammed into demountables which is usually the NSW Government’s lazy solution.

“NSW Labor is committed to putting schools ahead of stadiums and vanity transport projects in Sydney.”

Quotes attributable to Country Labor Candidate for Monaro Bryce Wilson

“Residents in Googong have been really clear about what they want- they want a public school and they want it now.

“The Googong community has been begging for a primary school from day one and I’m proud to be a part of a Labor team who will deliver on a promise to build one here.”
