Extreme Borsak comments evidence O’Farrell should tear up deal to allow hunting in national parks

Extreme comments from Shooters and Fishers Party MP Robert Borsak are further evidence that Barry O’Farrell’s deal with the Party to allow hunting in national parks should be torn up.

Mr Borsak has publicly ridiculed attempts for gun reform in the US – including mandatory background checks for firearms purchases – introduced and supported by families of gun crime following the tragic events at the Sandy Hook Elementary school.

In an interview posted on YouTube*, Mr Borsak labels President Obama and supporters of gun reform as “socialists”, urges US gun owners to “stick to their guns… fight as hard as they can and do not give an inch” to firearms reforms and invites the NRA to bring their “good work” to Australia.

Shadow Environment Minister Luke Foley said these comments are extreme and out of touch with the community - yet Barry O’Farrell has allowed the Shooters and Fishers Party to call the shots in his government and introduce amateur hunters into our national parks.

“Under Mr O’Farrell, Robert Borsak decides who will come to our national parks and the circumstances in which they come,” Mr Foley said.

“Mr O’Farrell should tear up his deal with Mr Borsak – a man who holds such extreme views.

“Barry O’Farrell already broke a promise not to allow hunting in national parks – only to turn around and do a dirty deal with the Shooters and Fishers Party to allow exactly that.”

The Premier was recently forced to suspend his amateur hunting in national parks plan – but refused to abandon the dangerous plan.

"I've warned Barry O’Farrell of the dangers of this program for months, and released multiple versions of leaked government documents showing the very real risks to public safety, animal welfare and national parks generally.

“Allowing recreational hunting in our national parks is a dangerous policy no matter which way you look at it.

“Barry O’Farrell needs to listen to the community, not the extreme views of the Shooters and Fishers Party, and abandon his dangerous plans for hunting in national parks.”
