COMMUNITY WIN AS LABOR CANDIDATE FORCES NSW GOVERNMENT TO BACK-DOWN OVER AIR-CONDITIONING POLICY

-->

Labor Leader Luke Foley has congratulated Labor’s candidate for Riverstone Dr Annemarie Christie, after she successfully lobbied for future buildings at Schofields Public School to be air-conditioned.

Dr Christie, along with parents and the P&C, campaigned for the school to continue to be air-conditioned after independently fundraising for units to be installed in the existing buildings.

In the announcement by the Berejiklian Government that Schofields P.S will undergo an upgrade, it was revealed the replacement buildings would not be air-conditioned as the school does not qualify under its Air Cooling Policy.

Today, Minister Stokes back-flipped on his own government’s rule to promise the school will receive ‘like for like’ if the current units are not repurposed- again exposing the Berejiklian Government’s quick capitulation on their bad policies.

Under Labor’s “Cool Schools” policy – every school in the Riverstone electorate will be eligible for air-conditioning.

The “Cool Schools” program is funded with $300 million from Labor’s decision not to proceed with the Berejiklian Government’s outrageous stadiums policy.

Dr Christie knows how important productive learning environments are, as her clinic specialises in treating younger patients. To cater for the growing number of families in the region, she opened ‘The Children’s Doctor’ clinic in 2005.

Dr Christie was born in Sydney’s north-west, where she is currently raising her four children with her husband in The Ponds.  She has extensive community involvement and was awarded Local Women of the Year (Hills District) in 2017 and currently sits on the Women’s Advisory Committee for Blacktown City Council, Diversity Advisory Committee of Clubs NSW and is a director of the Castle Hill RSL.

Quotes attributable to NSW Opposition Leader Luke Foley

“This is a proud achievement for Annemarie as well as the local community who will continue to have Schofields Public School air-conditioned, and rightfully so.

“The Liberal’s $2.2 billion stadium plan is seeing communities like Riverstone go without. Under Labor they will have a champion in Annemarie fighting for better schools and hospitals for them.”

Quotes attributable to Labor Candidate Annemarie Christie

“This is a win for Schofields Public School and the P&C whose hard-earned fundraising enabled the school to be air-conditioned in the first place and we will hold the Minister to account on his word to continue to do so.

“As a local doctor I see every day the incredible pressure  the Liberal Government’s wrong priorities are putting on local families – housing affordability, rising electricity prices and over-crowded schools are making it harder every day.”
