Baird lets Western Sydney down again

The Baird Government must shoulder the responsibility for the Commonwealth Banks’s decision to quit Western Sydney and move to the Australian Technology Park on the outskirts of CBD.

A failure to put in place a proper transport plan has left the company with no option other than to move east to Redfern’s ATP.

 4500 jobs will be lost from Sydney Olympic Park, 3500 from Parramatta, 350 from Lidcombe, with the CBA moving all of those jobs to Redfern.

 The CBA represents a quarter of all workers in the Sydney Olympic Park precinct.

 Their departure will be devastating to the remaining businesses at Olympic Park.

 The Baird Government’s failures include:

 Removal of all direct services from the city and Strathfield  to Sydney Olympic Park under the new train timetable;

  1. Failure to commit to light rail linking  Parramatta with Sydney Olympic Park and Strathfield;
  2. Failure to fix Sydney’s worst roundabout – the Australia Avenue roundabout of Homebush Bay Drive;
  3. Failure to deliver a WestConnex off ramp at Hill Rd into the Olympic precinct.

Quotes attributable to Opposition Leader and Shadow Minister for Western Sydney Luke Foley

 I blame the Government for the loss of 8500 jobs from Western Sydney. This will have a devastating impact on the Olympic Park precinct in particular.”

 “I don’t blame the CBA; they have been forced to spend millions of dollars running buses for their own staff from Strathfield to Olympic Park. Clearly they have decided enough is enough.

 “The absence of direct train services into and out of Olympic Park has been repeatedly cited as the number one concern in all surveys of precinct employees.”
