The Baird Government has rolled out a propaganda campaign targeting primary school children around Sydney’s Bays Precinct to push the Government’s redevelopment plans into classrooms.

Amongst the propaganda being rolled out by the Government’s property developer Urban Growth is a picture book that is being distributed to schools ahead of the Bays Precinct redevelopment.

The picture book uses cartoon characters and bright images to push the Government’s plan for the region. The book can be viewed here.

Teachers in the schools have also received a teaching guide on how to educate children about the Government’s plan which even includes suggested tasks and teaching materials for both early and late primary school students.

Example tasks include:

  • Ask students to pretend they are bike riding around the Bays Precinct Promenade
  • Write a story about a day in the life of the Bays Precinct
  • Visit the as a research task
  • Name the types of transport available in the Bay’s Precinct; and
  • Asking students to answer, why they thought Urban Growth NSW needed to develop destinations

The full list of teaching materials can be seen here

Urban Growth’s campaign has received backlash from the community after a video posted onto social media received a barrage of negative feedback with some people calling it propaganda and a cult.
